Staggering Costs of IT Electricity Consumption
January 26, 2008According to recent study of the US government the US IT sector consumed about 61 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2006 (1.5 percent of total U.S. electricity consumption) for a total electricity cost of about USD 4.5 billion. Growing energy costs and increasing processor power will drive electricity bills of IT sector to staggering amount $63 billion accumulated in 2008 - 2012. IT sector will consume accumulated 563 Billion kWh in 2008 - 2012, power equivalent generated by six large nuclear stations.
