Governments Stockpiling Antivirals
May 7, 2009Fears of a global influenza outbreak sparked by the H1N1 influenza A had prompted governments around the world to stockpiling antiviral drugs Tamiflu and Relenza. The latest figures from a new report Global Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Market Forecast 2010-2015 of Market Research Media show that governments worldwide are filling orders for antivirals, with orders for Relenza exceeding those for Tamiflu bye 20 percent in the first quarter of 2009. Governments are also targeting antiviral stockpile levels covering larger percentage of population. Countries with high healthcare expenditures per capita top the list. Austria, France, UK, Japan and Australia are approaching 50% population coverage or higher.
